Curtains need no longer be boring flat panels that simply hang in front of a window, but can be as lively and organic as nature – like a cascade of flowers or a rippling stand of sea kelp. The new 3D textiles by Bart Halpern will animate a room in a way that one dimensional fabrics have never been able to achieve.
Kelp, sea urchin and coral are made using the latest laser cutting techniques and use high tech microfiber polyester taffeta, which combines the elegance and fluidity of silk with unbelievable strength. The fabrics are tear proof and the laser cutting process heat seals the edges, so the fabrics don’t fray. The designs can be machine washed on the gentle cycle and are also flame and fade retardant.
The fabrics can be used in a variety of ways; as a sexy update on net curtains, or as a feature in front of another plain panel (as a window or shower curtain), or decoratively to run down a wall, or as a playful room divider. They are available in 11 color ways and the fabric comes in 120” widths, which “railroaded” runs seamlessly across any expanse of windows or walls. The fabrics will launch in Donghia nationwide in January.
